common questions

Why Have we split the lessons into 4 courses?

We have split our Serato DJ lessons into 4 DJ courses, DDJ SB3, beginner, intermediate and advanced. If you’re a DJ that already knows the basics we don’t want you to have to watch hours of video footage that’s just not relevant to you. However if you’re just starting out and you’ve already spent lots of money on DJ equipment we don’t want you to have to spend a fortune for all the lessons if you won’t need them right away. This means you don’t have to spend money on all the advanced lessons until you really feel you need or want them!

What’s the difference between the DDJ SB3 Course & Serato Beginner Course?

The DDJ SB3 Course is filmed specifically on this DJ controller and is aimed at helping you get started as a DJ if you own this specific unit. Most of the videos in this course are also embedded in the Serato Beginner Course. In the Serato Beginner Course there are also other videos showing the same techniques on other controllers such as the DDJ SX2 and Numark Mixtrack Pro 3. If you own something other than the DDJ SB3 then start with the Serato Beginner Course. If you have a DDJ SB3 then start with the SB3 course and move onto the intermediate Serato course after. There is no need to buy the DDJ SB3 and Serato Beginner Course together.

What music should I use?

Inside all of our courses are free download links to third party downloads. This list gets updated every few months with loads of new tracks to help build your library. Some of these tracks may be used inside your course to help you follow step by step and other lessons feature paid for music. All the techniques taught can be applied or adapted to most music libraries. Our aim is for you to be able to get creative and mix confidently with your own music library.

There is also a free direct download for our Crossfader Music Pack filled with exclusive music from friends of ours. You won’t be able to find these tracks anywhere else!

Our beginner courses also have Crossfader DJ Tools available to download. These tools are developed by us to help you master basic skills such as timing and beat matching manually.

Who's the tutor?

Our dedicated DJ tutor Jamie Hartley started working in the industry as a full time DJ over a decade ago at the age of 16. Since 2014 he’s worked to build Crossfader from a small UK based DJ school where he taught aspiring DJs in his studio, into what you see today, a global online DJ school and community.

From working one to one for years in a studio Jamie has developed foolproof and systematic ways of breaking down DJ skills and techniques so you can master them! A lot of other DJ schools will show you how things work rather than teach you the creative skills needed to help you stand out from the crowd.
